Description:
Costing & Design Engineer Lead – Modular & Ready-Made Doors
Location: Pune, Maharashtra
Department: Operations (Engineering – Costing & Design)
Reports To: Operations Head / Director
Experience: 8–12 years
Qualification: Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Civil, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent)
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Costing & Design Engineer Lead to own technical costing and product design for our modular and ready-made door lines. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for accurate cost estimation, BOQ/BOM preparation, and manufacturable design detailing that together drive competitive, profitable quotations and error-free production.
The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader who can translate client specifications into manufacturable designs, drive value engineering to reduce cost without compromising quality, and build a disciplined, detail-oriented costing and design team that production and sales can rely on.
Key Responsibilities
Costing & Estimation
• Prepare detailed cost estimates, BOQs, and BOMs for modular doors, ready-made doors, frames, and related products.
• Develop and maintain standard costing sheets and rate analyses across product variants, updating them for input cost fluctuations.
• Support Sales/Estimation with timely, accurate cost estimates for tenders, quotations, and project bids.
• Track actual production cost against estimate and report variances, driving corrective action on recurring overruns.
Design Engineering & Detailing
• Lead product design and detailing — shop drawings, GA drawings, and manufacturing drawings — for modular and ready-made doors.
• Review client/architect drawings and specifications, translate them into manufacturable designs, and flag design or specification risks early.
• Develop and standardize product design templates to improve manufacturing efficiency and quotation-to-production turnaround.
Value Engineering & Cost Optimization
• Drive value engineering — optimizing material usage, hardware selection, and design for manufacturability (DFM) — to reduce cost while maintaining quality.
• Conduct make-vs-buy and vendor/material comparisons to identify cost-saving opportunities.
ERP Compliance & Reporting
• Ensure accurate and timely entry of costing and design data into the ERP system.
• Maintain a live cost database, design library, and CAD standards; deliver costing/design status reports to management on schedule.
Collaboration & Team Leadership
• Partner cross-functionally with Production, Procurement, Quality, Sales, and Projects to resolve design and costing issues.
• Lead, mentor, and build capability within the costing and design engineering team; act as the single point of technical accountability for costing/design queries.
• Participate in tender review and bid finalization meetings, providing technical and costing sign-off.
What We're Looking For
• 8–12 years of experience in costing/estimation and design engineering, with mandatory hands-on experience in ready-made door manufacturing and/or modular manufacturing (or a closely related factory/industrial environment).
• Diploma or B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Civil, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
• Proven track record preparing BOQs/BOMs, rate analyses, and manufacturing drawings for volume/modular production (not one-off custom fabrication only).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks/Inventor (or equivalent) for design and drawing development.
• Working knowledge of ERP systems for costing and production data management.
• Strong people-management skills with experience leading a technical team and coordinating across functions.
• Working knowledge of door and joinery materials and relevant fire, acoustic, and moisture-resistance standards.
- • Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail under tender/production deadlines.
