About SAN Automotive Industries SAN Automotive Industries Pvt. Ltd. is a forward-looking automotive component manufacturing company specializing in precision sheet metal stamping, metal fabrication, welded assemblies, tool and die manufacturing, and engineered metal components.
As SAN Automotive explores new product verticals and advanced component technologies, we are planning to build a dedicated gasket and sealing solutions brand focused on modern automotive, industrial, EV, and future mobility applications.
For this new vertical, we are looking for a strong Head - Technical & R&D who can lead product development, material selection, testing, process development, and technical strategy for gasket manufacturing.
Position Overview The role will focus on MLS gaskets, metal gaskets, composite gaskets, coated gasket materials, rubber-metal sealing solutions, graphite-based gaskets, high-temperature sealing materials, and future-ready gasket technologies.
This role requires a professional who can understand both current gasket manufacturing practices and future trends in sealing technology, including materials for ICE engines, hybrid vehicles, EV thermal systems, hydrogen applications, battery packs, industrial machinery, compressors, pumps, and high-temperature systems.
Key Responsibilities1. Technical Leadership for Gasket BusinessLead the technical development of SAN Automotive's new gasket and sealing solutions vertical.Build the product roadmap for MLS gaskets, metal gaskets, coated gaskets, composite gaskets, and other sealing products.Identify suitable gasket product categories for automotive, industrial, EV, and future mobility applications.Define technical specifications, material requirements, process requirements, and testing requirements.Work closely with senior management to convert the gasket business idea into a scalable manufacturing vertical.Support customer discussions from a technical and product development perspective.2. MLS Gasket DevelopmentLead the development of Multi-Layer Steel / MLS gaskets for automotive and industrial applications.Understand embossing, stopper layers, bead formation, coating, sealing pressure, spring-back, compression, and surface finish requirements.Define suitable stainless steel grades, coating systems, thickness combinations, and layer structures.Work on gasket design requirements for cylinder head gaskets, exhaust gaskets, EGR gaskets, turbocharger gaskets, manifold gaskets, and other high-temperature sealing applications.Coordinate with tooling, production, quality, and testing teams to develop repeatable MLS manufacturing processes.Support prototyping, validation, trial production, and customer sample development.3. Material Research and SelectionIdentify and evaluate current and future gasket materials such as stainless steel, carbon steel, coated steel, graphite, non-asbestos fibre, rubber-coated metal, PTFE, elastomers, silicone, copper, aluminium, mica, and advanced composites.Study material behavior under temperature, pressure, fluid exposure, vibration, corrosion, and compression.Select materials based on application requirements such as engine sealing, exhaust sealing, oil sealing, coolant sealing, battery sealing, thermal sealing, and industrial sealing.Develop a material database for gasket products, including thickness, coating, temperature resistance, pressure resistance, compatibility, and supplier details.Identify future-ready sealing materials for EVs, battery systems, hydrogen systems, and high-temperature applications.4. Product Design and Application EngineeringUnderstand customer drawings, sealing requirements, surface conditions, torque requirements, flange behavior, and application environment.Support design of gaskets based on pressure, temperature, media, bolt loading, flange rigidity, and vibration conditions.Work on gasket geometry, bead design, hole patterns, sealing zones, coating areas, and assembly requirements.Coordinate with design teams for CAD drawings, tooling layouts, prototypes, and technical documentation.Provide technical inputs for manufacturability, durability, and sealing performance.Support reverse engineering and benchmarking of existing gasket products where required.5. R&D, Testing and ValidationDefine testing and validation requirements for different gasket products.Support development of test standards for leak testing, compression testing, coating adhesion, heat resistance, pressure resistance, ageing, corrosion, and durability.Coordinate with internal or external laboratories for material and product validation.Evaluate trial results and recommend design, material, or process improvements.Develop internal testing capability over time for gasket performance validation.Maintain technical records, trial reports, validation reports, and material test data.6. Manufacturing Process DevelopmentDefine suitable manufacturing processes for different gasket categories.Work on processes such as blanking, stamping, embossing, coating, lamination, heat treatment, surface treatment, cutting, punching, forming, inspection, and packing.Coordinate with tool room and production teams for tooling, dies, fixtures, gauges, and production setup.Develop process flow charts, control plans, inspection methods, and process parameters.Support line setup, machine selection, tooling development, and trial production.Improve manufacturability, cycle time, material utilization, and process repeatability.7. Supplier and Technology DevelopmentIdentify suppliers for gasket raw materials, coated metals, stainless steel, graphite sheets, rubber-coated metal, adhesives, coatings, testing services, and special materials.Evaluate supplier capability from a technical perspective.Coordinate with vendors for material trials, sample development, technical datasheets, and cost comparisons.Explore technology partnerships, machinery suppliers, coating suppliers, and testing support providers.Help build a reliable ecosystem for the gasket business.8. Customer Technical Support and New Business DevelopmentSupport business development teams in technical discussions with customers.Understand customer requirements and convert them into technical development plans.Prepare technical presentations, product capability documents, material comparison sheets, and product development timelines.Support RFQs by providing technical feasibility, material selection, process assumptions, and development inputs.Participate in customer meetings, audits, technical reviews, and sample development discussions.Help position SAN's gasket brand as a serious technical player in sealing solutions.9. Quality, Standards and DocumentationDefine quality standards for gasket products.Prepare technical documents such as material specifications, product specifications, inspection standards, control plans, process sheets, testing standards, and validation reports.Support quality team in defect analysis, customer complaints, corrective actions, and process improvements.Ensure product development aligns with customer expectations and relevant industry standards.Maintain complete documentation for each developed product.10. Future Technology and Market IntelligenceTrack new developments in gasket materials, sealing systems, EV sealing, battery sealing, hydrogen sealing, thermal management sealing, and advanced coated materials.Study global gasket manufacturers, product trends, material innovations, and future applications.Recommend new product categories that SAN Automotive can develop and commercialize.QualificationsDiploma / Degree / Postgraduate qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Polymer Science, Production Engineering, or related technical field.Strong experience in gasket manufacturing, sealing solutions, automotive components, engine components, sheet metal components, material development, or R&D.Hands-on knowledge of MLS gaskets, metal gaskets, composite gaskets, coated materials, rubber-metal gaskets, or industrial sealing products.Strong understanding of gasket materials, sealing behavior, pressure-temperature conditions, compression, coating, embossing, and product validation.Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, customer specifications, and technical requirements.Experience in product development, process development, testing, trials, and customer sample development.Comfortable working with production, quality, tool room, purchase, vendors, and senior management.Strong communication skills in English and Hindi.Good working knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint, technical documentation, and basic design/process documents.Ability to build systems, processes, and technical capability from an early stage.Preferred SkillsExperience in MLS gasket development will be strongly preferred.Knowledge of stainless steel grades, coated steel, graphite, rubber-coated metal, non-asbestos materials, elastomers, PTFE, mica, and advanced sealing materials.Exposure to cylinder head gaskets . click apply for full job details
