Position Summary


The Senior Lecturer is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, clinical training, patient care, research, and academic administration in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery or Orthodontics. The role involves mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students, contributing to research and publications, and supporting institutional accreditation and quality initiatives while ensuring compliance with the National Dental Commission (NDC) norms.


Key Responsibilities

1. Teaching & Academic Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, seminars, and practical demonstrations for BDS and MDS students.
  • Develop lesson plans, teaching materials, and clinical case discussions.
  • Conduct pre-clinical and clinical demonstrations.
  • Guide students in diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient management.
  • Prepare question papers, evaluate answer scripts, and conduct practical and viva examinations.
  • Mentor students in academic and clinical competencies.


2. Clinical Responsibilities

For Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

  • Diagnose and manage oral and maxillofacial surgical conditions.
  • Perform routine oral surgical procedures including:
  • Surgical extraction of impacted teeth
  • Minor oral surgeries
  • Management of maxillofacial infections
  • Pre-prosthetic surgical procedures
  • Biopsy procedures
  • Trauma management (under supervision where applicable)
  • Maintain detailed clinical records and documentation.
  • Supervise interns and postgraduate clinical work.


For Orthodontics

  • Diagnose malocclusion and craniofacial abnormalities.
  • Prepare orthodontic treatment plans.
  • Perform and supervise:
  • Fixed orthodontic therapy
  • Removable appliance therapy
  • Functional appliance therapy
  • Preventive and interceptive orthodontics
  • Retention procedures
  • Monitor treatment progress and patient outcomes.
  • Guide students in clinical case management.


3. Research & Publications

  • Conduct research in the respective specialty.
  • Publish papers in indexed and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research papers at national and international conferences.
  • Participate in funded research projects.
  • Assist students with dissertations and research activities.


4. Academic Administration

  • Participate in departmental meetings and committees.
  • Maintain attendance, assessment, and academic records.
  • Support curriculum development and implementation.
  • Contribute to accreditation processes such as NDC, NAAC, and NBA.
  • Coordinate academic events, workshops, CME programs, and conferences.


5. Patient Care & Quality

  • Deliver ethical, evidence-based, patient-centric treatment.
  • Ensure infection control and sterilization protocols.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and accurate documentation.
  • Follow institutional clinical governance policies.
  • Ensure compliance with biomedical waste management guidelines.


6. Institutional Responsibilities

  • Participate in admissions, orientation, examinations, and outreach activities.
  • Support community dental health camps and extension programs.
  • Assist in faculty development initiatives.
  • Undertake additional academic and administrative responsibilities assigned by the Head of Department or Dean.


Qualifications:


Essential

  • MDS in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery or Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the State Dental Council/National Dental Commission (NDC).
  • Eligibility as per the latest NDC norms for the position of Senior Lecturer.

Preferred

  • Fellowship or additional certifications in the specialty.
  • Publications in indexed journals.
  • Experience with digital dentistry, CBCT, surgical planning software, or clear aligner therapy (for Orthodontics).

Experience

  • As per the latest National Dental Commission (NDC) eligibility criteria.
  • Prior teaching and clinical experience in a recognized dental institution is preferred.
