Description:

1. Teaching & Academic Responsibilities


  • Deliver lectures, seminars, demonstrations, and clinical teaching for BDS and MDS students.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students during clinical postings.
  • Develop lesson plans, teaching materials, and assessment tools.
  • Conduct internal assessments, practical examinations, and viva voce.
  • Guide dissertations, research projects, and case presentations for postgraduate students (as per NDC norms).
  • Participate in curriculum planning, academic audits, and accreditation activities.


2. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and manage patients independently in the specialty.
  • Perform advanced clinical procedures in accordance with specialty protocols.
  • Supervise postgraduate and undergraduate clinical work.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation.
  • Ensure infection control, sterilization, and patient safety standards.


Specialty-Specific Responsibilities


A. Reader – Periodontology

  • Diagnose and manage periodontal diseases and peri-implant conditions.
  • Perform scaling, root planing, flap surgeries, regenerative procedures, mucogingival surgeries, crown lengthening, and periodontal plastic surgeries.
  • Carry out implant planning, placement (where applicable), and maintenance.
  • Manage periodontal emergencies and interdisciplinary periodontal care.
  • Conduct maintenance therapy and preventive periodontal programs.
  • Guide postgraduate students in periodontal surgical procedures and implantology.


B. Reader – Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

  • Diagnose and treat oral and maxillofacial diseases, trauma, and surgical conditions.
  • Perform routine and advanced exodontia, impacted tooth surgeries, pre-prosthetic surgeries, minor oral surgical procedures, biopsies, and cyst enucleations.
  • Assist and perform maxillofacial trauma management, orthognathic surgery, TMJ procedures, and reconstructive surgeries (as per institutional facilities).
  • Manage dental emergencies and medically compromised patients.
  • Supervise the operation theatre protocols and surgical asepsis.
  • Guide postgraduate students in oral surgical procedures and emergency management.


Research & Publications

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in the specialty.
  • Publish research papers in indexed and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present scientific papers at national and international conferences.
  • Apply for research grants and funded projects.
  • Guide postgraduate dissertations and undergraduate research projects.


Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head of Department in departmental planning and administration.
  • Maintain departmental records, inventories, and equipment.
  • Coordinate clinical schedules, seminars, journal clubs, and workshops.
  • Participate in institutional committees and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Support accreditation activities including NDC, NAAC, and NABH requirements.


Student Mentoring

  • Mentor students academically and professionally.
  • Monitor student attendance, clinical performance, and academic progress.
  • Provide career guidance and counselling.


Community Engagement

  • Participate in dental camps, screening programs, and oral health awareness initiatives.
  • Contribute to outreach and extension activities.
  • Promote preventive oral healthcare practices.


Qualification

  • MDS in Periodontology or Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from a recognized institution.
  • Registered with the State Dental Council/National Dental Commission (NDC).
  • Must meet eligibility criteria prescribed by the National Dental Commission (NDC) for the post of Reader/Associate Professor.


Experience

  • As per NDC eligibility norms for Reader/Associate Professor.
  • Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching preferred.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in the respective specialty.
  • Strong research and publication record in indexed journals.
