Description:

Senior AI Engineer

KairoPact Private Limited

Location: Remote-first (India)  ·  Level: Senior  ·  Type: Full-time

Reports to: CTO  ·  Dotted line: COO

About KairoPact

KairoPact delivers AI-augmented strategy and programme consulting to NGOs, donors, and CSR organisations across South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. We build proprietary AI infrastructure that amplifies human judgement — giving experienced practitioners research, synthesis, and structured analysis at a fraction of traditional consulting cost and time.

The Role

You will join as a Senior AI Engineer on the Axon™ platform — KairoPact’s internal AI intelligence engine — with a clear pathway to Lead AI Engineer as you grow into the role.

The role spans the full journey: from implementing technical strategy and architectural standards set by the CTO, to progressively owning day-to-day technical execution. You’ll work across the entire stack — agent pipelines, LLM routing, observability, retrieval, and data engineering.

This is not a role for someone who wants close management. It suits an engineer who is ready to own, and who sees a structured ramp-up as a springboard rather than a safety net.

What You’ll Do

●     Translate CTO architectural direction into actionable engineering — then progressively take greater ownership of those decisions as you build deep familiarity with the platform.

●     Drive full-stack delivery with the team — owning end-to-end implementation, not just individual components.

●     Design and evolve multi-agent pipelines — sequenced workflows with conditional routing, structured outputs, and human review gates.

●     Own the LLM routing layer — model selection, fallback logic, per-call cost tracking, and provider management across frontier models.

●     Drive end-to-end observability — every agent step, decision, token cost, and failure mode instrumented and reproducible.

●     Build knowledge retrieval systems — semantic search with structured filtering, namespace isolation, and data privacy controls.

●     Own backend data engineering — schema design, migrations, idempotency patterns, and multi-tenant isolation.

●     Lead code review and engineering standards; mentor and unblock the junior AI Engineer.

●     Keep the codebase and documentation in tight sync with the architecture specification.

What We’re Looking For

Required

●     4+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years focused on production AI/ML systems.

●     Proven experience owning or leading delivery on an AI product or platform — not just contributing to one.

●     Deep hands-on experience with agentic AI systems — multi-step pipelines, tool use, structured orchestration, multi-agent coordination.

●     Strong Python: async programming, type annotations, clean architecture, testing discipline.

●     Experience with LLM routing or orchestration frameworks (e.g. LangChain, LlamaIndex, DSPy, or equivalent).

●     Able to engage with architectural decisions — ask good questions, understand trade-offs, and implement accurately from a technical spec.

●     Strong written communication — clear thinker who can document decisions and communicate trade-offs concisely.

Preferred

●     Experience with LLM observability tooling (LangSmith, Weights & Biases, Helicone, or similar).

●     FastAPI or similar async Python web frameworks.

●     Vector databases and hybrid retrieval architectures.

●     Docker and container-based development workflows.

●     Prior experience as a tech lead, staff engineer, or founding engineer.

●     Interest in the NGO, development sector, or social impact space.

What We Offer

●     Early, meaningful responsibility for a technically sophisticated platform — with a clear, named progression to Lead AI Engineer, not a vague promise.

●     Direct access to the CTO for architecture decisions, code review, and engineering craft — without layers in between.

●     The chance to mentor a junior engineer and shape how the team works.

●     Exposure to strategy consulting in the NGO/CSR sector — work that has real-world impact.

●     Fully remote, async-first — we care about output, not hours.

KairoPact is an equal opportunity employer. We actively welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including those underrepresented in the technology industry.
